Chvishtari is a traditional Georgian cornbread with cheese, known for its crispy exterior and soft, cheesy center. Simple yet flavorful, it’s a perfect comfort food that pairs wonderfully with pkhali, another Georgian classic made from vegetables and walnuts.
Chvishtari with Corn Kernels and Smoked Sulguni
Ingredients
- 300 g corn flour
- 280 ml sparkling mineral water
- 60 g corn kernels
- 140 g smoked or regular sulguni cheese
- to taste salt
- vegetable oil (for frying )
Instructions
- Add salt to the corn flour, stir, pour in the mineral water, and knead the dough.
- Add the corn kernels and grated sulguni cheese, and knead again thoroughly.
- Shape the dough as you like; I prefer round shapes. Fry in a heated, oiled pan on both sides. The heat should be medium-low.
- Place the fried Chvishtari on a kitchen paper to drain any excess oil.Enjoy! 💛
