Pepperoni Pizza

Servings 12

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • 3.5-4 cups flour
  • 1 1/3 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt

For the sauce:

  • 3 tomatoes (peeled)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • to taste salt, red pepper flakes and black pepper

Additionally:

  • 450-600 g mozzarella
  • 150-200 g pepperoni
  • 2 tsp oregano

Instructions

To prepare the dough

  • dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water, cover with kitchen plastic wrap, and let it sit for 15 minutes to activate the yeast.
  • Sift the flour into a bowl, add salt, and mix well. Then add the yeast mixture and knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Finally, knead in the olive oil. You should get a soft, elastic dough. Brush 1 teaspoon of olive oil over the dough, cover it with kitchen plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 - 1.5 hours.

Sauce

  • Place the peeled tomatoes in a blender, add finely chopped garlic, tomato paste, spices, salt, and pepper. Blend for a few minutes until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  • Transfer the risen dough to a floured surface. Divide it into three or four equal parts (depending on how thin you like your pizza, I prefer it divided into four parts). Roll each one out to a 30 cm diameter, transfer it to a baking sheet, spread 2 tablespoons of sauce on it, sprinkle 150 grams of grated mozzarella, arrange pepperoni slices on top, and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of oregano.
  • Cover the remaining dough balls with a tea towel or kitchen plastic wrap until baking to prevent the surface from drying out. Place in a preheated oven at 220-250 degrees Celsius and bake for about 10 minutes.
